Point 2: It's more than a firmware update Horizon has to make changes to the RF deck on all of the other radios INCLUDING the initial run of DX-8's and THAT is the reason the radio has to go back to the service center unless it's a DX-8 manufactured after the initial run which would have the appropriate hardware. Point 1: Your radio is fine the way it is unless you plan on participating at events with a 100 or so users flying at the same time and even then it would probably be alright. I suspect that while Hitec has been really good to deal with, they would not offer upgrades to existing radios either, can't say about Airtronics as I have no experience with them but I suspect a similar position. Try dealing with Futaba when they release something new or upgraded to their radios, being a "former" Futaba user I can tell you what they do from personal experience.
